County Board to Take Up "Citizens United" After All
Jerry Ryberg is finally getting his way with the Knox County Board.

The Galesburg resident and local activist has succeeded in getting the Knox County Board to consider a resolution denouncing the 2012 Supreme Court decision allowing unlimited campaign contributions from big businesses: the one that most describe as being comparable to saying "Corporations are people."

Ryberg told the Knox County Board this week passing such a resolution is their duty.

"The people want you to pass this resolution. Republicans, Democrats, everyone who hasn't paid hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions of dollars to buy a Congressman, to elect a Congressman, or unelect one. These people want you to pass this resolution."

When asked if he and the resolution would be on the Knox County Board's December meeting, County Board Chairman Greg Bacon told Ryberg, "You will be."

The Knox County Board's regular meeting will be the day after Christmas, but the Reorganizational meeting following this month's election will be Monday night.

The Galesburg City Council has already passed a similar resolution.
