Red Ribbons and Red Lights This Saturday
Most people can tell you when they see a red ribbon it's for HIV/AIDS awareness.

Saturday the tree next to the HIV/AIDS memorial garden outside the Knox County Heath Department will lit with red lights and wrapped with a red ribbon.

The Knox County Health Department and the HIV/AIDS Task Force of Western Illinois is holding it's annual World AIDS Day ceremony.

Erin Olson with the Knox County Health Department tells the WGIL Morning News the ceremony is open to the public who would like to help celebrate and honor's all those affected by HIV/AIDS.

"We just want people to come out and help us honor and remember and support those people who have either passed or who are living with HIV and AIDS. It starts about 5:30, we're usually done about 6 or so, we always have really good cookies and refreshments, but it's just a very, very important emotional ceremony. Just come to be there to support those people."

Olson says HIV/AIDS still exist and the disease has not been wiped out.

She says there are still a lot hurdles to over come when it comes to funding research.

Olson says people should still get tested for HIV/AIDS and never feel embarrassed or ashamed about being tested because you're looking out for yourself.
