Men In Custody Following Altercation
Two men were arrested Friday night by Knox County Sheriff's after a dispute over a girl turned dangerous.

Deputies responded to the 700 block of Knox Road 2300 East for reported shots fired. 20 year old Nicholas Vawter of Yates City was at a party with his girlfriend when he learned her ex-boyfriend was planning to show up at the event.

The ex-boyfriend indeed showed up and after some verbal exchanges with 18 year old Brian Elliot of Farmington, Vawter allegedly discharged a shotgun two times in the air and a third time hitting the tail light of Elliot's car.

That's when the altercation began as Elliot put Vawter in a "choke hold". Vawter was able to remove a pocket knife from his pant pocket and allegedly stabbed Elliot in the calve before leaving the scene.

Deputies recovered the knife and shell casings. Vawter is charged with aggravated battery, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Elliot, who was later found at his residence, is charged with aggravated battery. Both are currently being held at the Knox County Jail awaiting court appearances.
