Discovery Depot Request Renovation Funds
The Galesburg City Council Monday night heard from the Discovery Depot on a funding request for renovating the children's museum.

Several members from the museum board were present to hear council reaction.

Executive Director Denise Bradburn explained to the council why the museum adds value to the community and why it's necessary to renovate the building.

"We have four or five programs we're offering right now currently. One of the ones that's most popular is our home school hub, which is a program for families that choose to home school. That program has had as many as 19 kids in it in previous weeks. We offer science, math, fine arts and Spanish language and culture for those families and we're working with them to be a resource for them."

If approved, the estimated cost of the project would be just over 762-thousand dollars.

43 percent of the museums visitors come from outside galesburg.

Bradburn suggested the Discovery Depot has a net positive impact of $623,000 a year on Galesburg.
