| Veterans Come Out For Job Fair |
Landing the right job is all about having the right tools at your finger tips. But when you're unemployed looking for work can be a daunting task especially if you don't have a strong resume. Job fairs can be a great way to get your resume and other information out to potential employers. The West Central Illinois Job Fair at Carl Sandburg College offered people from around Galesburg the chance to get their resumes out there. Among those in attendance were local Veterans looking for employment and in many cases the tools to help them get hired. Michael Anderson for the Goodwill Veteran's Program tells WGIL his primary job is helping Veterans get back into the work force by giving them the right tools to secure an interview that will lead to a permanent job.
"We'll get their resume done, we start connecting them with local resources, we find out what kind of educational opportunities they're looking for. And we might not the best person for the job but will connect them to somebody who is the best person for the job."
Anderson says job fairs are very important because they help reconnect Veterans to the work force. He says the best thing Veterans can do is show up, look presentable and if you don't have a resume just talk to employers. Anderson say walk right up to a booth and ask them what they're looking for in an employee, am I dressed right, or what do you think a good interview strategy is? Asking question can never hurt and will help in the long run. |
