Sunday Liquor Sales Could Start Earlier
The Galesburg Liquor Advisory Commission is moving head with the idea to allow bars and places that sell packaged liquor to start selling on Sunday at 7 a-m.

Currently in Galesburg liquor sales do not start until noon on Sunday.

Mayor Sal Garza tells WGIL the liquor board was asked by local establishments to look into changing the sale hours so they could keep costumers from having to go out of town early Sunday morning to get what they need.

It came from places that sell packaged liquor and they were asking for the consideration because come Sunday, people are driving and they're driving to nearby communities that do allow liquor sales as early as Six in the morning," says Garza.

The Commission's decision to move forward with changing sales times to 7-am on Sundays didn't come without some opposition from Commission members.

There was some concern moving sale hours up from noon to seven would increase D-U-I rates in the community.

Mayor Garza says he's asked the police department to look into D-U-I stats from other communities around the state who sell liquor on Sunday mornings to get an idea of what kind of impact it has on a community.
