Turf Committee Makes Recommendation
After several weeks of discussion and research, the district 205 turf committee has recommended artificial turf be used on the planned new football field.

The turf is part of the districts multi-purpose athletic facility.

The turf committee met last week with the Dunlap school district who tackled a similar project, athletic trainers, and representatives from turf companies two weeks ago to better understand the decision they're making.

The committee passed the recommendation for artificial turf 3-1 with one absent member.

Committee Member Bob Fulton tells WGIL he feels the district now has a credibility problem.

"I have a real problem with what was said at the time the 1% sales tax was passed and what's coming to fruition now and I have told Guy, I'v told Gene, I'v told all the members of the committee from day one no matter what we find I cannot vote for this."

The committee has now made their recommendation to the implementation committee and the board of education.

The committee and four others said the artificial turf was easier to play on and more cost effective.

Seven said the surface was safer and had greater "intangibles" such as being able to be used year round.
