Hare, Others React to Blago Arrest
Illinois politicians are using words like "sad," "disappointing" and "stunning" to describe the arrest of Gov. Rod Blagojevich over allegations that he tried to sell Illinois' open U.S. Senate seat.

Blagojevich was supposed to appoint the new senator, but he has now been charged with corruption for trying to link the seat to money and positions on boards and commissions. State Sen. Christine Rodogno (R-Lemont), the incoming state Senate minority leader, says Blagojevich should resign, but expects him to stay in office as long as possible. She says she’s stunned at the blatancy with which Blagojevich allegedly tried to shake down candidates at a time when he knew he was under federal investigation.

U.S. Rep. Phil Hare (D-Rock Island) agrees that Blagojevich should step down. He says something -- even a special election -- has to be done so that a new U.S. senator is seated without allegations of a dirty deal. Hare says he'll be mad if the seat stays open, and Congress can't pass a jobs bill by one vote which could have come from Illinois .
