Quinn: I'm Ready to be Governor
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn says he's ready to take over as governor, and that his No. 1 task would be to appoint a new U.S. Senator.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges on Tuesday, and Quinn Thursday told reporters at the Capitol that he has a vision on how things should happen. First, he says he'd like to see Blagojevich resign so that Quinn could immediately take over the governor duties. If the governor won't resign, Quinn says lawmakers should impeach the governor right away.

What's not in Quinn's vision is a special election to replace Barack Obama in the U.S. Senate. Quinn says the state doesn't have enough time or money to hold a special election. Quinn says since Congress will be making critical votes on the dragging economy, Illinois needs two U.S. senators making the state’s voice known. Quinn says this debacle reminds him of Watergate. "When you have all five constitutional officers, members of Congress, the U.S. senator from Illinois, Richard Durbin, the president-elect urging you to step aside, I think that's about as high as you can go," Quinn said. "President Nixon had a number of people telling him 'time's up,' and those messages have been sent to Gov. Blagojevich."

State lawmakers return to the Capitol on Monday.
