GREDA Contract Soon to Return to Galesburg Aldermen
Galesburg's City Manager says he's in the final stages of working out a contract for the city to continue funding the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association.

Dane Bragg told aldermen Monday night that he and GREDA Chairman Bob Fulton are ironing out some of the final details, and what Bragg calls an amended contract should be brought to a vote in two weeks.

The last couple Council meetings have seen an actual report from GREDA -- something aldermen said they wanted before Sixth Ward Alderman Wayne Allen wanted funding pulled amid now-unfounded allegations of financial mismanagement.

Bragg says a lot more of what aldermen want in a new contract should be included. "A component of that, that Bob Fulton and I have been working on, is a consolidated report that would include basic financial information, (Logistics Park Galesburg) and marketing information, and then as well prospect information in one report that would come to you on the Friday before the council meeting," Bragg said.

The question some aldermen then have is just how much of that information they receive will they be able to turn around and share with the public. GREDA Board Member Kit Wilcox told aldermen some, obviously, will have to remain confidential, while some will not. Bragg says that will be sorted out.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night approved the 2008 property tax levy totaling $7.5 million, and a $66 million budget for the fiscal year starting January first.
