Galesburg City Council to Revisit GREDA Funding
The City of Galesburg's relationship with the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association could either end Monday night, or start anew.

The Galesburg City Council agenda indicates that the tabling of a motion several meetings ago to terminate the city's agreement with GREDA will be reconsidered tonight. The motion could be taken off the table and voted on again.

There is also a separate agenda item for a proposed new contract with GREDA. In that, the city says they would still pay $75,000 for their services, but the deal would be for one-year, with the possibility of two one-year extensions.

The new contract also provides for a number of monthly and quarterly reports GREDA would be required to give to the City, and gives the mayor, city manager, and city economic development director seats on the GREDA board.

Following months of potential controversy and criticism, some of which has since proven unfounded, the Knox County Board last month approved a one-year deal with GREDA valued at $30,000.

The Galesburg City Council will also consider the formation of a new Galesburg Transit bus route when aldermen convene at 7:30 p-m inside council chambers at City Hall.
