Monmouth Manufacturer to Close
The city of Monmouth is losing one of its manufacturing businesses.

The IMI Cornelius Equipco Inc facility, located at 1181 North 6th Street by Farmland Foods, is closing. The business manufactures fountain dispensing machines. Don Gifford, Equipco's general manger, says Coca-Cola Foodservice North America plans to consolidate all of its remanufacturing business with Lancer Corporation. San Antonio, Texas based Lancer is a manufacturer and marketer of beverage dispensing systems to customers around the world.

Gifford says as a result of Coke's decision, the company is closing the Equipco facility. He says the business transfer will take place in phases over the next six months. A joint team made up of personnel from Coke, Equipco/Cornelius and Lancer will manage the business transfer. Gifford says the closing of the Equipco facility in Monmouth is expected to happen by the end of June, 2009.

The decision is purely a customer business decision, Gifford says, and not a reflection of individual or overall performance of the Equipco team.

IMI also owns Maple City Remanufacturing, where beverage machines are remanufactured. That facility is located at 1301 North Main Street in Monmouth.

It remains unclear at this time how many employees at the Equipco facility are losing their jobs.
