Illinois Electoral College Picks Obama
It is almost the best of times -- and worst of times -- in Illinois.

Monday morning, the Electoral College cast all of its 21 votes for Barack Obama for president and Joe Biden for vice president. Secretary of State Jesse White, convening the meeting in the Illinois Senate chamber, says it's not a victory for one group over another -- it's a victory for America.

One elector, State Rep. Tom Holbrook (D-Belleville), said his hope is that 100 years from now, Illinois is known as the "Land of Lincoln and Obama."

Simultaneously, White's office issued a news release calling for the resignation of Gov. Rod Blagojevich, arrested last week on corruption charges. White says there is no way for Blagojevich, for example, to make a credible selection for U.S. senator. White says Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, whether Blagojevich quits his job or simply hands over his duties for a while, can make the call. White adds a special election would be too expensive to consider as a truly valid option.
