Madigan: About Time for an Impeachment Committee
It seems to have been a long time coming, and may be a long time finishing. Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) says the impeachment committee inquiry into Gov. Rod Blagojevich's activities should allow the governor all of his constitutional rights in a trial, even if those rights lead to a long inquiry.

Madigan says Blagojevich should have the chance to testify or send a representative, question his accusers, and due process. But he acknowledges that it could mean the committee will meet for weeks on end. State Rep. Barbara Flynn Currie (D-Chicago), the Impeachment Committee chairman, says this will be no "kangaroo court." She says the U.S. attorney's office will be asked to participate in whatever manner it can, but says if it doesn’t, the inquiry will take less time.
