BREAKING NEWS: Two Dead in South Kellogg Street Fire
UPDATED 3:59pm 12/16/08 A residential fire on Galesburg's south side claimed the lives of two people.

Galesburg fire crews responded to the one-story, two-apartment unit structure just before 9:45 Monday morning at 1330 South Kellogg Street. Galesburg Fire Chief John Cratty said the first crew to arrive on scene reported heavy black smoke and flames coming from the front windows.

Cratty says the fire was deadly.

"There were two fatalities, but we're not at this point releasing any names."

The City has since identified the victims as 29-year old Dandre Price and his four-year-old son Tyrice.

The residence has single unit apartments in the front and rear, and Cratty said while at the scene of the fire the people in the back apartment were evacuated.

A man who lives nearby at 1441 South Kellogg Street said he believed Price, his girlfriend, and two children lived in the front apartment, where the fire started. The neighbor said he was concerned about Price because he didn't get out much.

Cratty says the fire was contained primarily to the front apartment. No damage estimate is available at this time and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
