Senate Preparing for Impeachment Process
The Illinois Senate is preparing for the potential impeachment trial of Gov. Rod Blagojevich. The Senate has named a nine-person committee to start working out the rules for such a trial, should the House vote to impeach Blagojevich.

State Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago), who takes over as Senate president next month, says the Senate must be ready. He says the committee will look at the rules used in other states and on the federal level during the President Clinton impeachment trial.

This committee has nine members, with five of them Democrats:

State Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago), chairman
State Sen. Bill Haine (D-Alton)
State Sen. James Clayborne (D-Belleville)
State Sen. Don Harmon ( D-Oak Park )
State Sen. Ira Silverstein (D-Chicago)
State Sen. Dale Righter (R-Mattoon)
State Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale)
State Sen. Matt Murphy (R-Palatine)
State Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-Chenoa)
