December Gas Prices Lower
The price of gasoline continues to drop.

After a drop last month of $1.04, gasoline prices in Illinois fell another 60 cents this month, reaching a December statewide average of $1.66, according to the AAA Chicago Motor Club.

AAA spokesman Beth Mosher says prices haven't reached bottom yet. She expects them to continue to fall in early 2009. The big reasons are the price of crude oil, dropping from $147 a barrel in the summer to $43 now, and the fact that demand for gasoline is down. People are using less.

The statewide average in November was $3.26; in October it was $3.30. In December 2007, it was $3.01.

The last time it was lower than it is now was when it was $1.65 in January 2004.
