State Police: First Snowfall Resulted in Several Traffic-Related Deaths
Traffic accidents this week have left six people dead, and Illinois State Police say that underscores the need for careful driving habits.

Master Sergeant Brian Ley says the first wintry weather of the year always leads to a batch of bad accidents, so he's taking the chance to emphasize roadway safety tips. Ley suggests that you check the weather and road conditions before you even get in a vehicle. Then he says motorists should always stay sober, buckle-up, and don't tailgate or quickly switch lanes.

Lee says so far in 2008, the number of roadway deaths is down by 209, a trend he'd like to see continue. A total of 108 people died on Illinois roads last December alone.
