Champaign Area Teacher Picked to be Principal at Mable Woolsey
The Knoxville School District will soon have a brand new principal after one of its longtime principals retires.

The District-202 School Board Wednesday Night picked Larry Easton to become the principal of Mabel Woolsey Elementary School, starting in the next school year.

Easton, a current resident of Newman, Illinois, southeast of Champaign, is currently a fourth grade teacher for Shiloh Elementary School in Hume, near Newman.

Carlton says Easton has been there for five years. Easton will replace Deb Galbreath, who is retiring from District-202 after holding a number of positions. A formal vote to hire Easton will take place in January.

The Knoxville School Board Wednesday also approved the district's property tax levy, following a Truth in Taxation hearing that had no public comment.

Carlton says the $3.7-million levy is unchanged from a tentative levy presentation made a month ago.

He says property values in the district are near $79-million, also unchanged from last month.

Carlton says the levy includes a bond levy totaling over $400,000 – an amount that will be specifically calculated, he says, by Knox County officials.
