Route 41 Traffic Crash Ruled an Accident
A Galesburg man's death as the result of a car crash on Route 41 several months ago has been ruled an accident.

That was the finding of a Knox County Coroner's Jury during an inquest Tuesday night into the death of 19-year old Michael Taylor.

Illinois State Police Trooper Brad Beekman is a traffic crash reconstruction expert, and testified Tuesday night that Taylor's vehicle was headed northbound on 41 at the railroad overpass south of Galesburg around 3am September 7th when he crossed the center line, and collided head-on with a car being driven by Isaac Croxton of Bushnell headed southbound.

Beekman says Taylor was wearing a seatbelt, didn't slow down or stop, and that there were no alcohol or drugs in his system, so he's lead to believe that Taylor fell asleep at the wheel.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, while Croxton suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The coroner's jury ruled Taylor's death was caused by blunt force injuries to his chest.
