McDonough Power Cooperative Update
posted 9:50 a-m, 12/21/8 McDonough Power Cooperative in Macomb reports they continue to restore outages caused by the ice storm that ripped through the area overnight Thursday.

On Friday the co-op added six crews, in addition to their own. Saturday an extra three crews were brought in. President/CEO Steve Epperson says, "We're working as quickly as we can and all of the crews will remain in full force until everything is restored."

As of Sunday morning, an estimated 500 McDonough Power members remain without power. The restoration process begins with repairing transmission lines that feed the substation then the large, three-phase lines that feed single-phase taps are worked out. Finally the individual taps that serve the members homes and farms are restored in an order so that lines serving the most members are worked out first.

Crews are currently working to restore single-phase taps. The outages that the crews are working on at this time are scattered, isolated and significant due to the damage that is being discovered. Epperson stated, "The conditions that these crews have to work in is horrible - it's windy, cold and the roads are slick."

Saturday night's wind combined with the thick ice already on the trees and lines caused additional outages that are being handled.

McDonough Power encourages everyone to not take chances with the extremely cold temperatures we are experiencing. If you're without power, make the proper provisions for a temporary place to stay.
