Galesburg Transit Adding New Downtown-to-Henderson St. Route
One of the bus routes going through the City of Galesburg has essentially stopped being on time, and city officials believe the creation of a new route will help alleviate that.

The Galesburg City Council recently approved, among some other changes, the creation of the city's fourth bus route. It would be called the "Express Loop," essentially traveling between downtown Galesburg, Sandburg Mall, and the Seminary Square Shopping Center.

City Manager Dane Bragg told aldermen the changes could be pretty costly to the city, but won't be as costly as one may think. "The proposed route amendments and the new route would increase our total transit expenditures by $97,995," Bragg said. "That is offset by a grant from the Downstate Operating Assistance Fund for Transit of $63,600, which would leave the city responsibility on an annual basis of $28,295."

Bragg says the new route will greatly improve service to Knox College students as well, something college officials have said they support.

The new route, which will be back in downtown Galesburg at :15 and :45 past each hour, will also necessitate some changes to the three main routes.

The new route is expected to start in mid-January.
