Wiretapping Discussed at Monday's Impeachment Hearings
The Illinois House impeachment committee is done for the week, but testimony Monday featured four subjects: how the federal government obtains wiretapping authority; the Blagojevich administration's leasing practices; opinions about alleged connections between campaign donors and contracts; and health care program details that the administration hasn't answered from last week's questioning.

The committee has adjourned, saying it's waiting for U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald to decide whether the committee can question witnesses without messing up his criminal case. It's also letting Gov. Rod Blagojevich's attorney take a week to put together some sort of defense.

John Scully, a former U.S. attorney, was one of the day's witnesses. He told the committee that prosecutors have to jump through multiple hoops before the U.S. Department of Justice and a federal judge approve a request to wiretap. But Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson asked about whether informants have to be credible when they tip the feds off to conversations that could be wiretapped, which may be a clue as to what direction he'll take in trying to have the FBI tapes kept out of a trial.
