Political Reform Advocate Testifies at Impeachment Hearing
The Illinois House Impeachment Committee on Monday took only about three hours worth of testimony, but it was loaded. The committee is considering the impeachment of Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

One of the topics on the list was pay-to-play. The witness was Cyndi Canary, director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, who championed a pay-to-play law that goes into effect Jan. 1. She says having a gap between when the law was passed and when it went into effect was like "giving an arsonist the keys to the garage, and saying you'll be back in three months." She likened the allegations to a five-alarm fire that encouraged Blagojevich to pull in as much campaign cash as possible before January.

As for the schedule, the committee is taking a break to give the governor's lawyer some time to line up witnesses, and to wait for word on whether other witnesses can testify without damaging the federal criminal case against Blagojevich.
