Fitzgerald Recommends Impeachment Committee Avoid Blago Criminal Case
It looks like no one being questioned in the criminal investigation against Gov. Rod Blagojevich will be testifying before the Illinois House impeachment committee. U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald sent a letter to the committee Tuesday saying that such testimony would interfere with his ongoing investigation.

But Fitzgerald didn't rule out giving the committee copies of the wiretap tapes. The U.S. attorney says he’s still considering the matter, and will soon give a final response. He also didn’t object to the committee looking into the hiring and firing scandal that let to several employees being fired because Blagojevich said those employees were taking it upon themselves to rig the hiring process.

Republicans say they're not surprised by Fitzgerald's decision on the witnesses. They say if Blagojevich attorney Ed Genson sticks to his prediction that he'll need only a day to present the governor's side, this impeachment inquiry could be wrapped up next week.
