McGarry vs. Allen in Ward 6 City Council Seat
A Galesburg Alderman who recently found himself in a potentially uncomfortable spotlight will face some opposition for his city council seat in the April consolidated election.

Resident Joni McGarry says she will be running against Wayne Allen in the sixth ward. McGarry says she wants to listen to residents and city administration alike in order to make the best decisions for the city.

In a statement, McGarry says she is looking to make an impact.

McGarry is a 2000 graduate of Galesburg High School and holds degrees from Anderson University in Criminal Justice and in Broadcast Production. She currently works for the Knox County YMCA and has previously reported on the City Council for a local radio station.

Allen found himself under controversy for claiming through a supposed source that the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association was mishandling state funds meant for the Galesburg Entrepreneurship Center. State officials later said the allegations were untrue.

Allen hasn't publicly said much at any city council meeting since bringing forth the allegations.
