Rail Support Letter, New Board Member Approved by Knox County Board
In a proposed letter to a local Congressman, the Knox County Board will back one issue to do with railroads and not support another issue having to do with the local railroad systems.

The Knox County Board Tuesday night approved drafting a letter to Congressman Phil Hare to support the Freight Rail Infrastructure Capacity Act and expresses legislation in Congress that the board would not support the reregulation of the railroads.

Board member Jan Occhi, in an example letter to the congressman says legislation to reregulate the railroads will limit rails ability to grow, and ultimately cost jobs in counties like Knox. The letter claims it isn't in the best interest of Knox County.

The letter says what is needed is a growth of the rail industry. Occhi said it may help the Galesburg area bring over or underpasses to the Main Street and Seminary Street rail crossings.

The Board Tuesday night also approved the election of David Serven to fill the District 5 vacancy on the board left by the departure of Stephen Johnson who no longer lives in that district. Members of the board in their final comments wished him luck and say they look forward to working with the Republican.
