Postal Inspector Says Holidays Equal Scams
The season of giving can be a season of taking -- if you are a con artist. Tom Brady, postal inspector in charge of Illinois, Wisconsin, and the St Louis area, says the holidays are prime time for people trying to separate you from your money.

Brady says his office gets involved in investigating phone or online scams if something goes through the U.S. Mail as a result. He says a favorite trick of scam artists is to collect money for a legitimate-sounding charity, often under the guise of helping police officers, fire fighters, or veterans. He says a recent case in Wisconsin of this nature involved $10 million from 450,000 victims.

Brady says if you feel you are, or are about to be, the victim of mail fraud, you can contact your local post office and ask for a postal inspector.
