Quinn: Give Your Frequent Flier Miles to a Soldier
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn is encouraging Illinoisans to donate their unused frequent flier miles to Operation Hero Miles. The program helps with travel for family members of a wounded service member.

"[Operation Hero Miles] provides free airline tickets to moms, dads and spouses of wounded heroes in Army medical centers around the world," Quinn said. "Having a mom or a dad or your wife or your kids or your brother and sister there, it's indispensable to your recovery."

Quinn added that many service members from Illinois have benefited from Operation Hero Miles. Across the nation nearly 16,000 tickets have been issued through donations to Operation Heroes Miles, with an estimated saving of $21 million to military families.

The call from Quinn comes at the end of the year, when some frequent flyer miles expire. Quinn urged those with miles about to expire to donate them online at www.fisherhouse.org or www.operationhomefront.org.

Airlines participating in the program include: AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Northwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.
