Galesburg Marine Makes it Home in Time for Christmas
A Galesburg man serving in the branch of the armed forces apparently had two foes to deal with a couple days ago -- Mother Nature, and air travelers apparently not willing to give their seat up to a man in uniform.

But nevertheless, Marine Lance Corporal "Robb" Fitch made it home late Tuesday night, after being stuck for hours at Chicago's O'Hare Airport due to travel trouble, and not getting any further than being on a standby flight before family members drove to Chicago to bring him home.

Fitch returned stateside about a month ago, and is back in Galesburg for Christmas. Despite the travel troubles, Fitch tells WGIL he's glad to be home, and misses things that many of us might take for granted. "It was wonderful, driving into town and seeing everything I grew up seeing," Fitch said. "Just seeing all the familiar (things) was very nice."

The 21-year old Galesburg resident says it was even nice to see something like street lights again.

Fitch repaired ammunition support equipment while on his first tour of duty in Iraq -- a seven-month tour.

Fitch says the way he sees it, there might not be able to be a war if people like him weren't doing they work they did.

Fitch and his family say they're appreciative for all the support they've been given, and for those who gave time, space, or materials to help make Fitch's welcome home Tuesday that much more special.
