Impeachment Panel Resumes Work Today
A week's break is over, and lawmakers hearing testimony about Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his job performance return to work this morning.

The governor's lawyer, Ed Genson, chose not to be interviewed about his plans for the defense. But last Monday he asked for a recess until today so he could put together a case. The U.S. attorney's office investigating Blagojevich has already told the committee to stay away from its witnesses.

Blagojevich is accused of ignoring the directives of the Legislature in various ways. The federal complaint alleges he tried to sell the vacant U.S. Senate seat.

State Rep. Gary Hannig (D-Litchfield), one of the 21 members of the House Impeachment Committee, says the committee must determine whether Blagojevich can truly continue to serve as governor, given the departure of his chief of staff and a deputy governor, as well as numerous ethical questions.
