Quinn: Burris Appointment an "Insult" to Illinois
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn says the governor's decision to appoint someone to fill the state's vacant U.S. Senate seat is an "insult to the people of Illinois."

Quinn harshly criticized Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who just minutes earlier announced that he's naming former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to the U.S. Senate.

Quinn says Blagojevich made a big mistake in defying the will of the Illinois people, who Quinn says have made clear that they don't want the governor to make the appointment. Quinn says Illinoisans "believe in clean government and Rod Blagojevich has unclean hands."

The lieutenant governor says he isn't taking issue with Burris' qualifications. Quinn says he has known Burris for more than three decades, but he thinks Burris made a mistake by accepting the appointment.
