Abingdon Man Accused of Sex Crime in Galesburg
An Abingdon man is being held in the Knox County Jail after allegedly having inappropriate contact with a child. Galesburg Police say 18 year old Jonathan West was arrested early Friday morning and is facing charges of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse after allegedly committing sexual acts with a 6-year old boy.

Police reports indicate West was staying at a residence in the 100 block of Oren Lane in Galesburg because he didn't have a way back to his house in Abingdon. A witness at the residence told police she at one point walked past a room around 2:25am Friday where children were sleeping. She claims she observed West on top of the victim and and stated she saw a lot of movement under the blankets. She says she notified the child's parents, who then confronted West. The parents told authorities West said he couldn't remember anything because he blacked out.

West later told police it was the six-year-old victim who asked West to perform a sex act on him. After that, West allegedly told police that the victim wanted West to perform another act on him which he did.

West is currently being held in the Knox County Jail pending a bond hearing. Police say West's criminal history has a prior conviction for Criminal Sexual Abuse.
