Levy Approval on District 205 Board Agenda
A lower property tax levy that will, nevertheless, amount to an increase on many Galesburg-area property tax bills will be considered Monday night.

The Galesburg School Board this evening will take a final vote on the 2008 property tax levy, one that district officials say hasn't changed since the tentative levy was adopted last month.

The total levy rate, combining the education fund with all others in the district, is expected to go down from $4.13 per one-hundred dollars in assessed value in 2007, to $4.05 this year.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance Paul Woehlke says the owner of a $50,000 home would likely pay $13 more a year in property taxes for the district's use, since the district is asking for about $1-million more in property taxes than it did last year.

The Galesburg School Board will also review the district's audit, and will hear a presentation about the upcoming bid process for the district's food service program, since this year was the last year the district could renew its contract with Aramark before being required to seek new bids.

The Galesburg School Board meets at 7:00 at Lincoln School.
