District 205 Property Tax Levy Approved
There's likely both good news and bad news for property owners in the Galesburg School District.

The District-205 school board Monday night approved a property tax levy for 2008 that will still total the same amount of money being asked for.

But District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, Paul Woehlke, says what was thought to be a pretty good increase in property values this year isn't as good as he thought it would be.

"There have been some new numbers from the city tax assessor," Woehlke said. "Whereas last month we thought that the valuations of properties would be going up, on average, four-percent for the tax bills this coming spring, the final number is actually three-percent...somewhat less."

Woehlke says that means the overall property tax levy rate will be $4.058 per $100 of assessed value, versus $4.13 last year. For someone with a home valued at $50,000, that equates to 50-cents more per month in property taxes for district services.

The Galesburg School Board Monday night also approved a resolution supporting legislation making its way through Springfield regarding wind energy legislation, and the district's school improvement plans.

Board members also learned that it has received an unqualified opinion from the district's auditor -- also known as a "clean" financial audit rating.
