Abingdon Celebrates Old Fashioned Christmas
A parade, singing, Santa Claus, a live nativity scene, horse drawn carriage rides and a lot of holiday spirit.

That's a small sampling of Abingdon's Old Fashioned Christmas, an annual event that was held Monday night. The parade, with around a dozen entries, kicked the festivities off. Children and their parents after that made their way to the police department to line up to see Santa, who was hearing Christmas wishes.

The sounds of the season were clear at the Gazebo downtown on Main Street, where a group of people sang Christmas songs.

Many people who initially lined the downtown area to watch the parade spread out afterward to take in the Christmas scenery, a carriage ride or warm up with hot chocolate at the Masonic Lodge. Abingdon resident Gary Huber says he never misses the Old Fashioned Christmas, which is a tradition in town.

"The way the people come out, the community...just having fun."

The parade was highlighted by this year's Jack Frost, Jake Crisp, and Little Miss Snowflake Allyson Derry.

This was the 19th year for Abingdon's Old Fashioned Christmas.
