Illinois AG Releases Safe Shopping Guide
A state agency is making a free resource available to shoppers who are buying Christmas gifts for infants and children.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has released her third annual Safe Shopping Guide. It's 93-pages of information that includes color photos and descriptions of hundreds of recalled children's products.

Madigan says the guide isn't just for reviewing new items.

"You can go through our 'Home, Safe Home' Shopping Guide, and not just determine whether or not what you're about to purchase is safe, but whether or not the items in your home are safe," Madigan said.

Madigan says just this year there have been more than 100 recalls of children's products that cover over 17-million individual items. This year's guide also provides information on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which Madigan says claims the lives of 2,100 infants each year.

The guide is available online at www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov, or you can request one in the mail by calling the attorney general's Recall Hotline (1-888-414-7678).
