Local Farm Bureau Issue Advances Congressional Redistricting at State Meeting
A local official at the annual meeting of the Illinois Farm Bureau in Chicago says it supports legislation other groups want crafted changing the way how congressional districts are drawn in the state.

Knox County Farm Bureau President Ted Mottaz says the Farm Bureau Monday adopted a resolution calling on the Illinois General Assembly to change the way the districts are drawn so that they don't favor particular politicians or voting trends among other things.

Mottaz tells WGIL it is certainly issue he feels very passionate about because he's concerned about representation of Congressmen locally.

"My comment to the group (Monday)...was 'If you want to see gerrymandering, take a look at the 17th (Congressional) District," Mottaz said.

That's Rock Island Democrat Phil Hare's district, which also includes parts of the Springfield and Decatur areas in addition to the Quad Cities and Galesburg.

Tuesday is the last day of the four-day meeting of the state's farm bureau.
