Galesburg City Budget Approved -- FULL DOCUMENT AVAILABLE HERE
There wasn't much left for the Galesburg City Council to do Monday night than formally adopt the budget for the coming fiscal year.

Aldermen approved the balanced, $23 million spending plan Monday night, reflecting the cuts and spending and hiring freezes aldermen have already signed off on.

And as much debate over the budget went about in the last several months, council members like Seventh Ward Alderman Mike Lummis had nothing but praise for the budget process.

"Passing the budget...was kind of anti-climatic," Lummis said. "But it does represent a ton of work, mostly by administration and accounting, and I think the fact that the taxes on a $100,000 went up less than $2 a year, I think that says a lot."

Lummis there also referred to the annual property tax levy request the city council also approved Monday night -- one that, officials say, only reflects a 0.2% increase in the average property owner's bill for city services.
