First Big Snowfall Hits Illinois and Galesburg
CHICAGO (AP) -- Mother Nature's first punch of the snowy season is expected to be a mighty one.

The National Weather Service says the storm rolling into Illinois could be extremely dangerous, with high winds and blizzard conditions.

Meteorologist Amy Seeley says northern Illinois could get walloped the hardest. Accumulations of snow could approach a foot in some places.

The storm's severity should peak later today. It's expected to roll out of Illinois Wednesday. The Galesburg area is under a WINTER STORM WARNING until 6 p-m Wednesday. The snowfall total, mixed with some possible sleet, is projected to be between 5 and 8 inches by the time the storm passes. That'll be followed by bitterly cold temperatures. The National Weather Service is calling for a low Wednesday night around zero and sub-zero wind chill readings.

So far, disruptions at Chicago airports are limited. The city's aviation department says delays at O'Hare International Airport are about 20 minutes and there are no cancelations. At Midway Airport, there are currently no delays or cancelations.
