Gusty Winds Knock Out Power in Parts of Illinois
UNDATED (AP) -- High winds are being blamed for patchy power outages across parts of Illinois.

Ameren's outage map indicates more than 11,000 customers statewide, most of them in southern and southwestern Illinois, were without power late this morning after wind gusts nearing 50 miles an hour downed trees and power lines.

Utility spokesman Leigh Morris says the wind gusts are a serious problem, but crews are thankful they don't have to deal with ice as well.

Locally, a WINTER STORM WARNING remains in effect until 6:00 Wednesday evening. Gusting wind combined with snowfall this morning created white-out conditions on some of the area's roads - reducing visibility to a quarter-mile or less in some instances.

Wind gusts approaching 45 miles per hour and bitter cold are in the offing after the snow moves out of the Galesburg area. Forecasters say the temperature will plummet to a low of 0 or -1tonight, with wind chill readings between -7 and 17-below zero.
