Storm Knocks Out Power in Galesburg Area
CHICAGO (AP) -- More than 17,000 Illinois electric customers spent Wednesday without power as a fierce winter storm with strong wind gusts and snow accumulations moved eastward across the Upper Midwest.

Ameren's outage map shows most of those outages have been restored. However, the Galesburg area dealt with the problem Thursday morning. The map indicated the area at one point had about 2,000 power outages. Henry County peaked at 1,100, Mercer County at 500 and Knox County 300. The numbers had fallen significantly by 9:00 am Thursday.

The utility is blaming strong winds that knocked down tree limbs and power lines for the outages.

The Galesburg area was under a WIND CHILL ADVISORY until 9:00am Thursday. Wind chill readings were well below zero Thursday morning, reaching minus-13 at one point, and sub-zero readings are expected Thursday night as well before the brutal cold makes way for a high temperature in the low 20's Friday.
