Corn Growers Disappointed in EPA Decision Not to Raise Ethanol Standard
The Illinois Corn Growers Association is expressing disappointment, but not surprise, at the U.S. EPA's decision this week to not move to a 15 percent standard ethanol blend in gasoline. The federal agency says more testing must be done to make sure that increasing the blend won't be a problem for vehicles.

ICGA president Rob Elliot says he understands and appreciates the need for more testing, but wishes the federal agency would have agreed to a 12- or 13-percent blend standard. He says the demand for ethanol will be hurt by the agency’s lack of action.

Elliot hopes to see a decision in increase the blend next year. The ten-percent blend has been the requirement since 1978.

Elliot is a Warren County farmer based in Cameron
