Charges Filed in Geneseo Hostage Situation
GENESEO, Ill. (AP) -- A hostage situation in the northwestern Illinois community of Geneseo has ended peacefully.

Police say no one was injured in the nine-hour standoff, and a suspected gunman is in custody.

Thirty-five-year-old Gerald Edwards faces home invasion, aggravated kidnapping and weapons charges.

Police say Edwards broke into his former girlfriend's apartment Friday and took her and her two children hostage. The children were released once officers arrived, but the former girlfriend was held for eight hours.

Edwards is accused of shooting at police more than a dozen times during the standoff.

Once the former girlfriend was released, police fired pepper spray into the apartment, and Edwards surrendered.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
