POLITICAL ASYLUM: Endorsement Inaction, Survey Says
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- A look at the week in Illinois politics shows groups deciding not to decide on endorsements.

The Illinois AFL-CIO decided last week not to endorse anyone in the race for governor.

That means the powerful labor organization is giving the cold shoulder to Gov. Pat Quinn. That's despite his success in passing a huge public works program that should create plenty of jobs for Illinois union members.

Challenger Dan Hynes called that a "stinging rebuke" of the incumbent.

Of course, Hynes wanted the AFL-CIO's endorsement himself, but he settled for Quinn not getting it.

The situation was reversed when it came to an endorsement from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. AFSCME has had a rocky relationship with Quinn as he tries to cut state jobs and overhaul pensions.

The union decided not to endorse either candidate.
