Copiers & School Budget Cost-Cutting
It may not seem like a big deal on the surface, but what could soon happen if the Galesburg School Board approves new copy machines for the district's facilities could mean much more than that.

The District-205 board Monday night will consider entering into an agreement with Xerox for new copiers for the district at a cost of about a half-million dollars over five years, plus another roughly nickel per color copy.

The agreement will be either to lease new copiers, or enter into a lease-purchase agreement.

Either way, District officials say if the district had continued with a lease agreement that expired with the fiscal year, it would cost the district a little more than $200,000 a year.

The new agreement would equate to about a 50-percent savings for essentially the same copying service.

The Galesburg School Board Monday night will also take a final vote on a proposed property tax levy increase for the coming billing cycle, and will consider changes to its internet usage policy for students that will also be the subject of a public hearing.

That hearing starts at 6:55pm Monday. The regular school board meeting is at 7pm, both at Lincoln School in the district's board room.
