Knoxville Hires New Superintendent; Current Superintendent Accepts New Position
UPDATED 1:04am 12/17/09 The president of the Knoxville School Board says he hopes he and the rest of the board have made the right decision in bringing in some new blood to run the district.

Bob Bogard is referring to Steven Wilder, whom the District-202 board voted to offer a three-year contract to Wednesday night, at a base salary of $106,000 a year.

Bogard tells WGIL Wilder, the current Vice Principal of University High School at Illinois State University, really impressed the board.

"We threw a lot of things at him in our session with him," Bogard said. "He had good, solid ideas on how to solve some of the problems that we see exist. He is the type of individual that will think things through and get the right answers to make it work."

Bogard says while it will be Wilder's first stint as a superintendent, he has previous experience in the Olympia school district.

Wilder's wife is a Knoxville High School graduate, so Bogard says Wilder wants to be closer to some of his family.

Wilder will replace Doctor Larry Carlton starting July first, whose contract the board chose not to renew.

However, Carlton told WGIL he's since been hired as Superintendent of the Henry, Illinois school district.

The Knoxville School board Wednesday night also voted to approve a $3.9 million tax levy for the current school year, one that is higher than last year, but the rate per $100 of assessed value will decrease due to higher property values.
