Illinois Gets Extra Medicaid Money
Some extra money is coming Illinois' way. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced that it's giving out $70 million in bonus money to nine states that have signed up more kids for health care programs. Illinois signed up an additional 115,000 children to the CHIP and Medicaid programs in Fiscal Year 2009.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says $9.1 million of that money is being awarded to Illinois. The criteria for the bonus money include:

* Establishing 12 months of continuous eligibility
* Eliminating face-to-face interview requirements
* Using a joint application for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and
* Simplifying the process of renewing a child's eligibility for Medicaid.

Gov. Pat Quinn says the money will go into the state's general checkbook.
