U of I Considering Buyouts to Cut Costs
URBANA, Ill. (AP) -- The University of Illinois is considering employee buyouts as a way to cut costs.

Urbana-Champaign campus spokeswoman Robin Kaler said Thursday that buyouts are among the possibilities for cutting costs. The details of any cost-cutting measures that might be taken haven't been worked out.

Campus units were told earlier this month to make contingency plans to cut costs by 10 to 15 percent.

Spokesman Tom Hardy says the university is wrestling with financial issues that include delays in state payments. He says the state owes the university $400 million.
