Orpheum Fundraising Goes Up
The president of Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre says the facility has well publicized its various needs throughout the course of the year, and it's paying off important dividends at the end of the year.

Kate Francis says there's still some time left in the theatre's annual end-of-the-year fundraising appeal has been going since the beginning of November, and well over $20,000 has been raised already -- far exceeding last year and any other fundraising targets.

Francis tells WGIL she's pleased and thankful for all of the public's support.

"While we've talked about economy and persons perhaps struggling a little bit more, it's been very heartening to see the community come forward for the Orpheum Theatre in the past six months, and we greatly, greatly appreciate that," Francis said.

Francis says she was concerned this year would be a difficult year, especially after last year being so difficult for many organizations.

She says she's read and heard plenty this year about how people think the Orpheum will go out of business, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Francis, by the way, says that with a few weeks to go in the year, she's within a thousand dollars or so of having a balanced budget for the year.
